Milam Glacier trek

Located at the base of Mount Trishul, Milam glacier is the source of Gori Ganga river. It is the largest glacier in the Kumaon region. A long and adventurous route through rugged terrains along the river, waterfalls, chunks of ice and crossing hills makes this a moderate level trek that all the trekkers have in their bucket list. The trek goes through beautiful villages of Martoli, Burphu and Milam that tell you about the history of the Johar valley. The architecture here is admirable, the people are lovely and the views are heavenly.

The timelessly beautiful village Martoli with lovely stone houses was a part of the trade route of Tibet earlier. Rilkot to Martoli is a steep climb of about 7 km. From Martoli the trek through mule bridges over Lwan Gad and Gori Ganga takes us to Milam village via Burphu village (Burphu village has a history which the locals love to share). Many Bhojpatra trees can be found in the Milam village which has fertile land and traditional houses with artistic windows and doors. Some of these houses are centuries old.
