Nanda Devi Base camp

The second highest peak in India, Nanda Devi is a twin peak massif- Nanda Devi east (7434m) and west (7816m). The trek to Nanda devi base camp is approached through the Rishi Ganga gorge which is one of the deepest in the world. This trek follows ancient Indo-Tibet trade route through deserted villages of Kumaon. While the trek seems like a leisurely walk at certain patches, there are steep climbs and challenging terrains on some days. You get spectacular views Hardeol, Trishul, Panchachuli and Nandkot peaks throughout the trail.

Itinerary

Start at 6:30am from Kathgodam. Breakfast and Lunch will be en-route. Introduction, Briefing & Overnight stay at camp in Munsiyari

Drive till roadhead at Dhap and then trek upto Pungdeo. Relax, explore the surroundings Overnight stay in tents.

Trek to Bagudiyar via Nainsingh top and Bhabalidhar. A strenuous and steep climb for first 3 hrs all the way till Nainsingh top. This is followed by a descend and then and flat trail to Bogudiyar. Raj Rambha and upper Panchachuli peaks are visible on the way.  Overnight stay in tents or local huts.

Start the trek along the River Gori Ganga and come across a few beautiful water streams with Ice cold water. Overnight stay in tents

AS you start form Rilkot the Martoli peak will be visible from a distance. Walk through the meadows and arrive at Ghanghar village where Panchu valley begins and leads to Nanda Devi base camp. Explore the village as this is a good opportunity to see and admire the typical Jauhar houses with woodcarvings. Overnight stay in tents or huts.

Steep 3 hour ascent followed by a steep descent and then a regular walk on soft green grass, with views of several peaks all around. The trail crosses the stream. Get a closer view of Nanda Devi East. This is a good opportunity to see and admire the typical Jauhar houses with woodcarvings. Overnight stay in tents or hut.

A steep trek through rhododendron and birch forest makes the trek an ultimate experience. Explore the Panchu glacier emanating from the northern face of Nanda Devi. The climb continues to Nanda Devi base camp. Overnight at Panchu glacier in the tents.

A downhill trek followed by an uphill climb leads to Martoli village which is a deserted village in a beautiful meadow on an important ancient trade route. You will find many old houses with ancient style wood carvings. Also visit the Nada Devi temple here. Overnight stay in tents or huts.

Walk on gradual terrain to reach Nahar Devi village. Ralam pass and abandoned villages of Kilanch and Laspa are visible at a distance on this route. Overnight stay in tent or hut.

Initial descend till radgari bridge followed by a climb up to the Nain singh top and descnd down till Pungdeo campsite. Overnight stay in tent or hut.

Trek uptill Dhap bend where jeep would be waiting to take you to Munsiyari. Overnight stay in guesthouse/homestay/hotel in Munsiyari
