Today we cover the most challenging strip of the entire trip. An early start gets us to Chamoli, where at Putin we gear up our rafts, brief ourselves for the day to come and get set to start an adventure of a life time! Here we cover some outstanding grade IV and grade IV + rapids. Depending on the level of water we either walk around or actually face the rafting challenge posed by the ‘Hillary Falls’ rapids at Nandprayag. Once this exhilarating day on the river comes to an end, we call it a day back at Kadubagar. Take your rest, you will need it for the coming day!
Today we raft till Gauchar amidst plenty of grade III and IV rapids bringing us to the confluence of Pindar at Karanprayag. Here, the Pindar River adds more water to the already rapid Alaknanda adding more punch and zest to the rapids to follow. Finish the day at a sandy beach where you can romanticize nature with clear star gazing and bonfires.
Today is the day we like to call a ‘Pool and Drop’ day as it has plenty of grade III and IV rapids as compared to the start. After breakfast we get on our rafts and go all the way to Rudraprayag. Here you will come across what is often the high point of the entire trip- The Kakar Fall, a grade V rapid. Interestingly, this rapid is called so because the canyon surrounding it is narrow enough (15 meters) for a Kakar (Deer) to leap across. A detailed inspection of the canyon is made before we decide to either negotiate it or line up the raft to enter this spectacular narrow box canyon. The last leg of the trip is to cross another grade IV rapid-Holy Hole, after which we drive back to Rishikesh and then to Haridwar to board the evening train back to Delhi.
Delhi to Kathgodam. Overnight train from Delhi to Kathgodam. (Train travel not included in cost.) We arrive early in the morning.
Meet us at Kathgodam early morning to drive up to Sheraghat. This is a drive of about 5 hours through the towns of Almora and Bhim Taal. You get the views of big Himalayan ranges like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and many more. We stop for lunch at some local Dhaba and of course for photography whenever needed. We reach Sheraghat in the evening and stay overnight at hotel/camp.
We start the day early with a drive (2 ½ hours) to the starting point of the expedition. After a comprehensive talk on river safety as well as basic instructions, we will ready for an enthralling experience of negotiating through grade 3 to 4 rapids and captivating views of Himalayan villages. We pitch camp late afternoon, followed by dinner around the campfire.
Day 3 is full of challenges, begining with an exciting grade 4 rapid, there are over 15 grade 3-4 rapid till the confluence of Saryu and Ramganga East at Rameshwar. The Ramganga East adds more volume to the river adding punch to the rapids. The section below this confluence is relatively easy and gives you a chance to bodysurf or just experience the tranquil beauty of the valley. We pitch our camp on a sandy beach for a relaxed afternoon. Go for a short hike or simply laze around the campfire in the evening and enjoy a hot meal around the fire. Camp overnight.

The river run from Rupali Gad to Pari Gaon takes us through Kali’s biggest rapid, the ‘Chuka’, a grade 4+ rapid. The rapid has several channels and hence we scout the rapid before running it. We negotiate a few more grade 3 rapids before we reach Pari Gaon, where we camp early evening. Camp overnight at the beach.
Take the day at your own pace. Relax at the beach or take a hike to the village or go for a nature walk and explore the remote surroundings.
Our starting point on the last day in the river would be Pari Gaon to reach the finishing point at Boom. The last section runs through a canyon with exciting grade 3-4 rapids. We load up after lunch, and drive to Kathgodam where our trip ends.
This is the end of the journey folks; we’re back to Delhi, bright and early.
