The path to Chenap Bugyal leads you through a diverse terrain – dense forests of oak, pine and rhododendron to wide open alpine meadows and stony encounters. The track is ups and downs but there’s no technically difficult terrain that requires climbing equipment or anything like that. Trekkers really just need stamina and the ability to walk for 6–7 hours a day carrying a light pack.

Beginning at a height of about 7,000 feet from the base village, the trek gradually ascends to about 13,000 feet near Chenap meadow. The climb being a multi-day affair gives your body time to adapt naturally. That gradual ascent also means that altitude sickness is less of a concern.

You don’t need to be a technical climber to do this trek, but you do need to have good cardiovascular fitness and strong legs. You should be able to jog 4 to 5 kms in 30 minutes without getting tired.

After a half day’s drive to thyng village, this day marks the commencement of your Chenap Valley Trek. The trail winds through oak, deodar and rhododendron plantations. After 4-5 hours of trekking is Dhar Kharak.

Day 3: Dhar Kharak to Chenap Bugyal (Approx. 8 km trek)

This is one of the most scenic day on the trek. The path slowly climbs through alpine-botanical meadows. When you get to Chenap Bugyal, you will be in surrounded by rolling meadows and 360° views of majestic Himalayan peaks.
